PREFACE

The conference brought together international specialists in the areas of elasticity, viscoelasticity and optimal control. Recent results in the mathematical formulation of problems, in the development of powerful numerical methods and in the construction of efficient control laws were presented. Special emphasis was placed on modeling and specific applications.

This volume contains part of the plenary lectures, oral communications and posters that were presented at the meeting.

We thank the authors for their scientific contributions, and are grateful to them for publishing in the young electronic journal ESAIM: Proceedings. The efficient work of the referees greatly contributed to this volume. Finally, special thanks go to Emmanuel Blanchard and Isabelle Charpentier, whose help for the electronic presentation of the volume has been greatly appreciated.
