Initially the series comprised three electronic journals, ESAIM: COCV (Control, Optimisation and Calculus of Variations), ESAIM: P&S (Probability and Statistics) and ESAIM: Proceedings.

In 1999, the journal RAIRO-Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Analysis (M2AN), which is also published under the auspices of the SMAI, was integrated into the ESAIM series.
