EDP Sciences is a scientific academic publisher owned by learned societies that is fully dedicated to the services of its authors and its readers. The learned societies mandate that EDP Sciences’ mission is to disseminate science. As such we support initiatives providing access to scientific publishing and information and we support educational activities in order to share science around the world.
Dissemination of knowledge to developing countries
EDP Sciences has been part of the Research4Life program since 2008.
Research4Life is the collective name for the four programmes – HINARI, AGORA, OARE and ARDI – that provides developing countries with free or low cost access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content online.
Research4Life is a public-private partnership of the WHO, FAO, UNEP, WIPO, Cornell and Yale Universities, the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers and over 200 international scientific publishers.
The goal of Research4Life is to reduce the knowledge gap between high income countries and low and middle income countries by providing affordable access to critical scientific research. Since 2002, the four programmes – Research in Health (HINARI), Research in Agriculture (AGORA), Research in the Environment (OARE) and Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI) – have provided researchers at some 8,000 institutions in more than 100 low and middle income countries with free or low-cost online access to more than 60,000 leading journals and books in the fields of health, agriculture, environment, and applied sciences.
EDP Sciences recognizes the need to bringing scientific developments to the largest audience, and therefore supports efforts in education and initiatives that facilitate access to scientific information around the world.

Enfants du Désert
EDP Sciences supports the association "Enfants du Désert" which is committed to ensure access to education for all the children of Southern Morocco.
Scientific Writing for Young Astronomers
Each year EDP Sciences organises, in partnership with the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, the "Scientific Writing for Young Astronomers". The purpose of this school is to teach new PhD Students how to present their scientific results through effective and accurate writing.
