French academics to benefit from national open access deal with EDP Sciences
- Détails
Paris, France 12 December 2017. Supported by the French Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, EDP Sciences and Couperin.org the national consortium for academics in France, have signed a significant 5-year open access deal.
Through this deal, all authors from French institutions participating in the agreement, including world leading research centers, universities and engineering schools are now able to choose to publish their articles under an open access CC-BY license in a large selection of EDP Sciences journals regardless of whether their institution has a current subscription or not.
Whilst open access publication is at the heart of this significant agreement, in addition, all participating higher education and research institutes based in France gain access to the full collection of academic journals published by EDP Sciences, most of which are owned by learned societies. This gives French researchers unrestricted exchange and access to scientific information within their global scientific communities, assuring unrestricted advancement of science.
Anne Simoneau, Sales Director at EDP Sciences said, "At a time when libraries are turning their back on the Big Deal, we are proud to have signed this significant national deal which is the first agreement in France to allow authors from all French participating institutions to publish in open access". She continued “open access reflects EDPs’ values and goals and this deal further reinforces our mission for dissemination of important research in order to accelerate scientific progress."
"This agreement with EDP Sciences brings many benefits", said Grégory Colcanap, National Coordinator from Couperin.org, "most importantly it significantly supports French researchers in the international open access arena, but additionally it helps to endorse the transition of academic research to open access".
Alain Abecassis, Department Head, Coordination of Higher Education and Research Strategies at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in France said "the Ministry is pleased to support one of the most important scientific publishers in the country, and this agreement ensures that the world renowned research carried out in France will be disseminated around the world".
