Paris, France – 28 November 2024. EDP Sciences has announced an immediate pause in the publication of new proceedings in E3S Web of Conferences and BIO Web of Conferences until the end of 2024. This decision reflects the company’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity and addressing emerging challenges in conference proceedings publishing.

Recent investigations have identified ethical breaches affecting these two journals, including cases of citation manipulation. EDP Sciences is actively investigating these incidents and will take firm action against confirmed malpractice.

While the majority of conference organisers and authors are committed to honest and ethical practices, the evolving nature of publishing malpractice presents new challenges. These can be difficult to detect with current tools and workflows. To tackle this, EDP Sciences is dedicating resources to researching and implementing advanced solutions to prevent ethical breaches in conference proceedings.

“We take the integrity of all our publications very seriously,” said Agnès Henri, Managing Director, “In recent years, we have introduced several measures to improve conference proceedings workflows, but new types of publishing malpractice require enhanced tools and solutions. While we implement these, we have taken the proactive step of pausing the publication of new proceedings in these journals to ensure the integrity of our content.”

EDP Sciences acknowledges the patience and understanding of conference organisers and authors affected by this pause and extends its gratitude to the many honest contributors who maintain the highest ethical standards in their work.

Further updates will be provided as new tools and solutions are implemented.
