EDP Sciences is an international academic publisher which was founded by learned societies in 1920. EDP Sciences is fully dedicated to the services of its authors and readers. Core to our mission is the accessibility and dissemination of science and, as such, we support initiatives providing access to scientific publishing and information and we support educational activities in order to share science around the world.

EDP Sciences is a member of the UN SDG Publishers Compact and is committed to “Actively promoting and acquiring content that advocates for themes represented by the SDGs, such as equality, sustainability, justice and safeguarding and strengthening the environment”.

Research4Life
Research4Life - Access to Research in the Developing World

EDP Sciences has been part of the Research4Life program since 2008.

Research4Life is the collective name for the four programmes – HINARI, AGORA, OARE and ARDI – that provides developing countries with free or low cost access to academic and professional peer-reviewed content online.

Research4Life is a public-private partnership of the WHO, FAO, UNEP, WIPO, Cornell and Yale Universities, the International Association of Scientific, Technical & Medical Publishers and over 200 international scientific publishers.

The goal of Research4Life is to reduce the knowledge gap between high income countries and low and middle income countries by providing affordable access to critical scientific research. Since 2002, the four programmes – Research in Health (HINARI), Research in Agriculture (AGORA), Research in the Environment (OARE) and Research for Development and Innovation (ARDI) – have provided researchers at some 8,000 institutions in more than 100 low and middle income countries with free or low-cost online access to more than 60,000 leading journals and books in the fields of health, agriculture, environment, and applied sciences.

EDP Sciences offers Science Publishing Masterclasses that harness expertise and specialist resources to help early career researchers and PhD students better understand scholarly publishing. Participants focus on writing and peer reviewing scientific articles as a way of developing and improving their technique.

EDP Sciences recognizes the need to bringing scientific developments to the largest audience, and therefore supports efforts in education and initiatives that facilitate access to scientific information around the world.

EDP Sciences is a partner of the "Olympiades de Physique France", a scientific competition for high school students. This event, organised by "Union des professeurs de physique et de chimie" and "Société française de physique", enables small teams of teenagers to live for several months while completing an amazing scientific adventure around an experimental project.

Scientific Writing for Young Astronomers

Each year EDP Sciences organises, in partnership with the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics, the "Scientific Writing for Young Astronomers". The purpose of this school is to teach new PhD Students how to present their scientific results through effective and accurate writing.
