We recently announced that five of our mathematics journals, published in partnership with the Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI), are advancing open science with a new, prescriptive data and code sharing policy. Earlier, we announced that one of these journals, Mathematical Modelling of Applied Phenomena (MMNP) partnered with Peer Community In (PCI) to enable transparent peer review of preprints. This recently published paper in MMNP demonstrates these policies in action by including a code availability statement, code citation, and a peer review statement.

This year, Peer Review Week (PRW) explores the theme "Peer Review and the Future of Publishing." This timely focus allows us to ponder upon the advancements and challenges in the ever-evolving landscape of academic publishing. Before we offer our thoughts on the topic, we want to first express our deepest gratitude to all our reviewers. Your contributions are invaluable in upholding the standards and integrity of scientific research.

Astronomy & Astrophysics (A&A), a leading international journal dedicated to the dissemination of original research across the broad spectrum of astronomical and astrophysical disciplines, is pleased to announce the appointment of three new associate editors to its editorial board: Vasiliki Pavlidou, Andreas Koch-Hansen, and Eva Schinnerer.

Paris, France, September 06, 2023. The annual meeting of the A&A Board of Directors was held in Heraklion, Greece on May 31st and June 1st 2023. During this meeting, the A&A Board, the governing body of the journal, made several key decisions. These included defining long-term scientific policies, establishing publishing guidelines, and appointing new Scientific Editors. Additionally, the Board recommended approval of the journal budget to the ESO Council and took other actions to maintain and develop A&A's status as one of the premier peer-reviewed journals in the field.

EDP Sciences is pleased to share the progress of our journals in the recently announced Journal Citation Reports™ and CiteScores. The latest results not only demonstrate a collective and consistent performance across our publications but also highlight notable individual achievements within their respective fields.

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Web of Conferences journal collection, Cahiers de l'Institut Pascal, on behalf of the Institut Pascal, Université Paris Saclay.

EDP Sciences, in collaboration with the European Southern Observatory (ESO) is delighted to announce the introduction of links between Astronomy & Astrophysics (A&A) articles and corresponding ESO datasets. This initiative establishes A&A as the first major astronomy journal to feature such links, significantly enhancing research discoverability and facilitating a more comprehensive reader experience.

Congratulations to the Société Française de Physique (SFP) on its 150th anniversary! We look forward to a year of celebrations marking this wonderful milestone which got underway on 16 January 2023 with a “Cérémonie d’inauguration” at the Sorbonne. Sylvie Retailleau (former Editor-in-Chief of J3EA), Françoise Combes (Associate Editor of Astronomy & Astrophysics) and Serge Haroche (Journal de Physique author) were the guests of honour and Agnès Henri, Managing Director also attending, was very proud of their connections with EDP Sciences.

We are delighted to release the Subscribe to Open (S2O) 2023 Transparency Report for our mathematics journals* co-published by EDP Sciences and the Société de Mathématiques Industrielles et Appliquées (SMAI). Following the announcement that the journals will continue to publish in open access in 2023, this report marks our third consecutive year of providing this comprehensive overview, reinforcing our commitment to transparency. By presenting a detailed analysis of metrics such as subscription prices, subscription renewals, costs, and usage data, it offers a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of the S2O initiative for these titles.

Many research papers published in mathematics journals include numerical results obtained through computation. By default, EDP Sciences has a policy of encouraging authors to upload data and code related to their research to an online repository, and to include a data availability statement and data/code citations in their articles. Five of the maths journals published by EDP Sciences in partnership with the Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI) have implemented a more prescriptive data sharing policy.
