Nous sommes heureux d’annoncer une nouvelle étape dans le partenariat que nous entretenons de longue date avec l’Ifremer (Institut français de recherche pour l'exploitation de la mer) et l’IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développement). Ces organismes de recherche en sciences marines se sont engagés à soutenir Aquatic Living Resources (ALR) à travers le financement de la revue sous un modèle d’accès ouvert diamant. Ainsi, grâce au soutien de l’Ifremer et de l’IRD, il sera possible d’accéder librement à l’ensemble des articles sans abonnement et sans frais de publication pour les auteurs. Cet accès libre concerne également les archives de la revue.

We are pleased to inform you that Security and Safety is accepting submissions for its Special Issue on “Security and Safety in the “Metaverse””. The term “Metaverse” was first used in the science fiction novel “Snow Crash” in 1992 and describes “a virtual world parallel to the real world”. Thirty years later, and especially since 2021, the “Metaverse” is more popular than ever and considers various information technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, and communication networks.

We are delighted to introduce >National Science Open (NSO), a new international, peer-reviewed, open access journal. NSO disseminates the most influential research of profound impact in advancing human knowledge, covering the full arc of natural sciences and engineering and is supported by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is led by Editor-in-Chief, Professor Yue Zhang, University of Science and Technology Beijing. There are also six Executive Editors-in-Chief representing different disciplines and all of them are members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Congratulations to our longstanding colleague, Alain Aspect, Université Paris-Saclay and École Polytechnique, France, for his award of the Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 and to John F. Clauser, USA and Anton Zeilinger, University of Vienna, Austria who also receive the award. According to the official press release, the new laureates have been recognised “for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science”. The three physicists “have each conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states… Their results have cleared the way for new technology based upon quantum information.”.

We are pleased to highlight the recently completed EPJ B topical issue on “Evolutionary Game Theory”. The special issue contains over twenty articles, some of which are open access. The whole issue is free to read until 9 November 2022.

This year, Peer Review Week 2022 (PRW 2022) is celebrating “the essential role that peer review plays in maintaining scientific quality” with a focus on “Research Integrity: Creating and supporting trust in research”. We are grateful to this annual event for highlighting the important role peer reviewers play in science publishing. So, before we continue, a heartfelt thank you to all our reviewers and anyone who helps to support peer review.

It is with great pleasure that we are extending our Science Publishing Masterclasses to Chinese researchers and students through a series of four online sessions running from September to December 2022. The sessions relate to journals publishing and begin in September with an “Introduction to scientific publishing” followed by “How to write a scientific research paper”, “How to publish your research paper” and “Open science, Open access”.
