We are pleased to announce that 4open has just been accepted into the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) where it joins over 13,500 other high quality, open access, peer-reviewed journals. These journals cover all areas of science, technology, medicine, social science and humanities. Indexation in the DOAJ means 4open is in compliance with the open access policy of the DOAJ and meets all the strict criteria required for inclusion.

“The Directory of Open Access Journals is a service that indexes high quality, peer reviewed Open Access research journals, periodicals and their articles' metadata.” ( DOAJ DOAJ) The aim of the DOAJ is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals, thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The DOAJ aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content.

“As a journal expressly built on the four pillars of open science, I am very pleased 4open has been accepted into the DOAJ. It is an important step for the journal as research funders often require DOAJ indexing to release funding for OA publication charges,” commented Claus Roll, Senior Publishing Editor. “Furthermore, the DOAJ is used by many organizations worldwide as a guide to quality open access journals. Together with WAME, OASPA and COPE, the DOAJ has also established the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing, which are widely used in their own evaluation criteria for indexation.”
