Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena (MMNP) is pleased to announce that all articles from the “Coronavirus: Scientific insights and societal aspects” special issue can now be accessed in HTML and ePUB formats, in addition to the traditional PDF format. With these additional formats, we are making research on mathematical modelling of the Covid-19 epidemic more easily accessible to researchers, students, and the public alike.

Until now, the content published in EDP Sciences mathematics journals was only available in the traditional PDF format, best suited for download and print usage. Publishing content in the additional HTML and ePUB formats ensures a choice for readers and a more responsive experience, with better readability on smaller screens, such as smartphones and tablets, and e-readers. EDP Sciences is thrilled to offer open access content that is easier to share and cite, using a link to a webpage, and accessible through both online and offline reading.

Through 2020, as mathematical modelling became the public’s new favourite scientific discipline, Editor-in-Chief Vitaly Volpert and his international team of Guest Editors have produced an outstanding special issue covering a broad range of topics related to coronavirus infection and epidemic. So far, 16 articles have been published in open access in the special issue, as well as an easy-to-read ‘Key summary‘ article. The call for papers remains open and all further articles in this special issue will also be published in all publication formats.

From the beginning of 2020, MMNP has transitioned to open access under the Subscribe to Open model. This successful pilot paved the way for all of the EDP Sciences’ maths journals, which will also become open access in 2021, subject to sufficient subscription renewals being received.
