2021 Impact Factors – a steady, overall performance with some notable results
- Details
We are pleased to report a steady, overall performance for the EDP Sciences journal portfolio in the latest Journal Citation Reports™ from Clarivate. This follows last year’s unprecedented, across-the-board increases. As always, there are some excellent, individual results to share.
‘Star’ performers and Subscribe-to-Open
Astronomy & Astrophysics’ impact factor has increased to 6.240 – its highest ever impact factor. It is ranked 12/69 in the Astronomy & Astrophysics category (Q1) and is clearly held in high regard by its community (its CiteScore also increased significantly this year). We look forward to further success following A&A’s transition to the Subscribe-to-Open (S2O) open access model in 2022.
Another S2O journal which has performed well is RAIRO - Operations Research. Its impact factor has increased by 81% to 2.526 and the journal is now ranked 44/87 in Operations Research & Management Science (Q3). Like A&A, its CiteScore also increased significantly this year.
Also satisfied by this year’s results are BSGF-Earth Sciences Bulletin and Radioprotection. BSGF’s impact factor has increased by 70% to 3.192 (93/201 in Geosciences Multidisciplinary, Q2) and Radioprotection’s impact factor has increased by 57% to 1.589. In 2023, Radioprotection will also adopt the S2O open access model enabling wider dissemination of its radiological protection research.
Movers and shakers
Oil & Gas Science and Technology (which changed its name to Science and Technology for Energy Transition (STET) at the start of 2022) has increased by 28% to 2.189. STET will eventually supersede OGST and we look forward to reporting on its impact factors in future.
In the meantime, we are pleased to report an increase of 32% to 2.021 for the Journal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications which joined EDP Sciences at the start of 2022. We are off to an excellent start with JEOS-RP and look forward to helping the journal reach its full potential on behalf of its parent organisation, the European Optical Society.
Last, but not least…
With our origins in physics publishing, we are always pleased when our physics journals do well. EPJ Applied Physics has increased to 1.168. Although still a modest impact factor, it nevertheless builds on last year’s 58% increase. Acta Acustica has been awarded its first, partial impact factor of 1.355 since it changed its name from Acta Acustica united with Acustica and transitioned to open access in 2020.
The Journal Citation Reports™ from Clarivate aim to help publishers and editors, librarians and researchers “Quickly understand a journal’s role within and influence upon the global research community ...” The release of new impact factors is eagerly anticipated every year.
We would like to thank all our editors, reviewers and authors for their hard work which has contributed to the 2021 impact factors and CiteScores. We are committed to publishing good-quality science and believe that ‘quality’ can and should be judged using a range of qualitative and quantitative criteria.
